Cricket's Three Formats and Major Competitions

Each format of cricket holds its own appeal for Bangladesh's cricket fans. Betting markets are structured differently for each format as well.

Format Match Type Betting Features
T20 20 overs per side, fast-paced game Over-by-over runs, outcome of each over, powerplay score — the highest number of betting markets; BPL, IPL and T20 World Cup fall under this category.
ODI 50 overs per side, one-day match Mid-match odds shift more; new markets open at the innings break. Available in ICC events and bilateral series.
Test Five-day Test cricket A draw is a separate outcome, so there are three markets. Pitch conditions and weather affect the markets.

BPL — Bangladesh Premier League

BPL is Bangladesh's own T20 franchise league, where local and overseas cricketers come together. During the BPL season at jt, you can bet on everything from the tournament winner down to small markets within each match.

IPL — India's Big League

IPL is the world's highest-profile T20 league. Large markets open for every match — from match winner to whether a sixth wicket will fall. Real-time betting on IPL matches is available in the in-play section at jt.

T20 World Cup and International Series

The ICC T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and bilateral series featuring the Bangladesh Tigers bring a festival feel. These tournaments have more matches, so betting markets are wider.

How Betting on Football and Other Sports Differs

At jt, you can bet on football as well as cricket. The betting structure of the two sports is quite different:

  • In football there are three match results — win, loss or draw. This 1X2 market does not exist in T20 or ODI cricket (there is no draw), though it does in Test cricket. Half-time score, corner count and goalscorer markets are more popular in football.
  • In cricket there are far more ball-by-ball events, so in-play markets refresh after every over. In football, changes are driven by goals or cards.
  • In other sports — Kabaddi, badminton or volleyball — there are fewer markets, but match winner and handicap markets are generally available.

Card games and table games are also available in the jt live casino section — visit the jt Casino page for details.

Betting Markets

Popular Cricket Markets and Examples

The way you bet differs slightly from market to market. Below are seven main markets with brief examples.

Match Winner

The simplest market — bet on which team will win. There is no draw in T20, so there are two options: Team A or Team B. Winning or losing the toss does not factor in here.

Easy to Start

Toss Market

This market is simply about who will win the toss before the match starts. Odds are usually close to 50-50. It has no direct connection to the match result.

Quick Result

Top Batsman

Bet on which batsman will score the most runs in an innings. There can be two versions — within one team or across the whole match. Keeping current batting form in mind makes this market more interesting.

Team Market

Total Runs Over/Under

This market is about whether the total runs in the match will be above or below a set number. For example: will both teams' combined runs exceed 320? Pitch and weather are important here.

Numbers-Based

Multi Bet (Multiple Selections)

Add the results of multiple matches to a single bet. Odds multiply, so the potential return is higher — but if even one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost. A detailed example is in the odds section.

Higher Return Potential

Top Wicket-Taker

Bet on which bowler will take the most wickets in an innings. Whether it is a pace bowler or a spinner, and how the pitch is playing — all of these need to be considered when making a decision here.

Bowling-Focused

Player Performance Props

Whether a specific batsman will score 50 or more runs, or whether a bowler will take 2+ wickets — these kinds of prop markets are available in T20 and ODI. They are more specific than match winner, so odds can be a little higher.

Understanding Odds

Decimal, Fractional and American — Three Odds Formats

The same odds can be written in three ways. The two examples below make the difference clear.

Example 1 — Team A to win (৳1,000 bet)

3.00
Decimal
2/1
Fractional
+200
American

All three formats express the same odds. If the bet wins, you receive ৳3,000 back — ৳2,000 profit plus your original ৳1,000. If the bet loses, ৳1,000 is gone.

Example 2 — Team B favourite (৳1,000 bet)

1.80
Decimal
4/5
Fractional
-125
American

Favourites have lower odds. Here, a winning ৳1,000 bet returns a total of ৳1,800 (profit ৳800). In American format, a minus sign means how much you need to bet to win ৳100.

Multi Bet Example — Three Selections

Say you bet on three separate matches: decimal odds of 1.50, 1.60 and 1.80. Combined odds become 1.50 × 1.60 × 1.80 = 4.32 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳432 if all three are correct. But if even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost — the success rate on multi bets is lower, but the potential return is higher.

These are example figures only — not live odds or a guarantee of winnings. Betting is for entertainment.

In-Play Betting — Odds Shift the Moment a Wicket Falls

Betting before a match is one kind of experience, and in-play betting is another. At jt, markets are reset after every ball, wicket or over while the match is in progress.

For example: if a team suddenly loses three wickets in the 15th over, their odds of winning increase (meaning their probability drops). Equally, if only 12 runs are needed off the last over, that team's odds fall quickly.

  • After the powerplay ends, markets for the next innings are reset based on the score.
  • Between wickets, partnership markets open — on how many runs will be added.
  • The total runs over/under market is most active during the death overs.

In-play betting moves fast, so it is not always possible to take time with a decision. Following responsible gaming guidelines is especially important here.

Useful Tips

Things to Keep in Mind for Cricket Betting

Set a budget

Keep a separate budget for each season or week. Placing a larger bet to recover a loss is not a good decision.

Understand one market well

For newcomers, starting with match winner or total runs over/under is straightforward. Get a good grasp of simpler markets before moving on to prop bets or multi bets.

Pitch and weather

The type of pitch and weather conditions have a big impact on run totals. Keep these in mind before placing over/under bets.

Entertainment is the main goal

Betting adds to the enjoyment of cricket — it is not a way to earn income. Play with both wins and losses in mind. For 21+ only.

FAQ

Cricket Betting Questions and Answers

T20 is a good starting point for newcomers. Matches finish in two to three hours, there are more markets available, and results come quickly. ODI is a bit longer, and Test matches run five days so the markets shift more. The core idea is the same across all three — who will win, how many runs will be scored, who will perform best.

Match winner odds shift significantly after each wicket. The total runs over/under market updates after every over. New markets open at the end of the powerplay, such as how many runs will be scored in the remaining innings. These changes happen fastest during the death overs.

Correlated markets from the same match generally cannot be placed in the same multi bet — for example, match winner and top batsman from the same team may be treated as related contingencies. Combining markets from different matches is more common. Platform rules can vary, so it is worth checking the betting slip.

If a match is cancelled due to rain or any other reason, bets are usually refunded (voided). If a result is determined by the D/L method after the required number of overs have been completed, markets are settled accordingly. Full details for each market at jt can be found in the terms and conditions.

IPL is the world's largest T20 league, so it has more markets and higher liquidity — meaning odds move faster. BPL has its own local conditions and environment, so pitch and weather factors play out differently. The core market types are the same in both; the main difference is depth and the pace at which odds move.
